Kalachakra Stupa Restoration Painting Project
Help us fully restore the stupa at the Kalapa Kalachakra Retreat center. This stupa is extremely precious as it exactly matches the Kalachakra Stupa at the Dalai Lama’s temple in Dharamshala. The paint on the stupa needs to be refreshed.
The benefits of building and restoring stupas
All the result or success in your life and on your Dharma path depend on merit. To reach full enlightenment also depends on the two accumulation of merit and wisdom. Building a stupa and restoring a stupa helps create the causes for both your enlightenment and of others who benefit from seeing the stupa. In this way sentient beings make connection with Buddha who may not have the merit yet to connect in any other way other than to see a holy object.
In the Guhyasamaja tex it says: “A stupa is a palace where all the buddhas are abiding. Those beings who don’t have the karma actually to see buddha need the holy objects of body, speech and mind – statues, scriptures, stupas – as a field for accumulating merit.”
Through connecting with a stupa we are connecting with the enlightened mind of the Buddha which is none other than our own inherent buddha nature, our own innate wisdom and compassion.
Project Timeline
We are planning to do this in the month of July after Khentrul Rinpoche leaves. If you are interested in volunteering for this project July 17 – 24th, please register for the Kalapa care week here.
We would like to be able to take video and photos of the whole retreat center to properly highlight the special aspects of the space with everyone. We have arranged for a volunteer drone photographer to get a good view of the stupa from the air in August. This is one of our last projects of the year at the retreat center as we look to 2023 to have an active retreat and program schedule. We also hope that tourist in the area may stop in to visit the temple to receive the blessings of seeing the holy objects.
