Mahasambara Kalachakra Mandala

As described by Taranatha, Mahasambara Kalachakra stands in yab-yum with his consort Vajradakini on a multicolored lotus, adorned with sun, moon, rahu, and kalagni disks. The sixteen petals of the central lotus unfold with eight goddesses and eight nectars. Radiating from the lotus, six wheels of consciousness, earth, water, fire, wind, and space respectively arise, followed by the colored ground. Eight doorways lead to numerous deities, protectors, and offerings, beyond which lie the perimeters of the universe in terms of earth, water, fire, wind, space, and finally the garland of light. Sixteen charnel grounds are situated along the boundary between the perimeters of fire and wind.

By displaying the appearance of our reality as it actually is, this mandala invites us to transform ourselves and our world to create greater peace and harmony via the skillful means of the Kalachakra path.
